IMPACT 0 PORTLAND 4

POST-GAME REPORT: June 28, 2009

PORTLAND, Oregon - The Montreal Impact (5-5-2) was shut out 4-0 (halftime 1-0) by the Portland Timbers (7-1-5), Sunday, at PGE Park, in Portland, Oregon. With this result, the Impact has ended a sequence of three consecutive wins, while Portland remains undefeated in seven home games.

"We were the best team on the field in the first half, but after the second goal, the team broke down and we simply stopped believing," explained head coach Marc Dos Santos. "Today's performance is unacceptable. We allowed them to come at us as they wanted. We gave away four goals due to defensive mistakes and a lack of concentration."

The Timbers opened the score early in the 9th minute. From the top of the 6-yard area, forward Mandjou Keita deflected with a header a corner kick from David Hayes, beating Matt Jordan to his left, in the upper part of the net, scoring his 5th goal this season.

Keita (47th) doubled the Timbers' lead at the start of the second half, with his second goal of the game. On a pass from George Josten, Keita fired a shot that deflected on Impact defender Kevin Sakuda, before beating Jordan, who had come out of his net, over his head.

Midfielder Brian Farber (56th) scored the third goal for the Timbers. After taking advantage of a pass from Josten behind the Montreal defense, Farber took a low and precise shot that beat Jordan to his right.

Impact defender Simon Gatti then scored an own goal at the 64th minute, when he attempted to pass the ball to Jordan.

Defender Nevio Pizzolitto started his 200th career game with the Impact. Only Mauro Biello (265) and Nick De Santis (210) have reached this mark in club history.

Defender Adam Braz entered the game in the second half, after having missed five games due to a thigh injury.

The Montreal Impact will play its next game against the Haitian selection this Wednesday, at Saputo Stadium, in the second of six international games presented this summer in Montreal.

The Impact will play its next regular season game against the Charleston Battery, Sunday, July 5, at Saputo Stadium (3:30 pm, Radio-Canada, CKAC Sports, THE TEAM 990, USLlive.com)

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS
17th minute – Midfielder Sandro Grande fired a low shot from the edge of the penalty box, but the Timbers goalkeeper dove to his left to make the save.

28th minute – Midfielder David Testo's shot from the edge of the 18-yard box hit the post to the left of goalkeeper Steve Cronin.
