THE IMPACT WILL FACE THE CHARLESTON BATTERY IN THE QUARTERFINAL ROUND
MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact (5th) will face the Charleston Battery (4th) in the playoff quarterfinal round of the USL First Division, in a two-leg aggregate goal series.
Saturday night, the Puerto Rico Islanders defeated Miami FC 3-1, which secured the third place to the Islanders and fourth position to the Battery. Friday, a 0-0 draw between Rochester and Charleston guaranteed the fifth spot to the Impact.
The first leg will be played Thursday at Saputo Stadium, at 7:30 pm (radio-canada.ca/sports, CKAC Sports, THE TEAM 990, USLlive.com). The second leg game will be played Sunday at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston at 7 pm (FSW, CKAC Sports, THE TEAM 990).
The top seven teams in the rankings advanced to the playoffs. The regular season champion, the Portland Timbers, earned a bye for the semifinal round. In the other two quarterfinal series, Carolina (2nd) will face Vancouver (7th), while Puerto Rico (3rd) will match up against Rochester (6th).
After the quarterfinals, teams will be ranked according to the regular season standings. The semifinals will be played between September 30 and October 4. The final round this year will be played on two games. The home and away series will be held from October 9 to the 11, and from October 16 to the 18.
