IMPACT 1 VANCOUVER 0

POST-GAME REPORT: July 16, 2006

Forward Joel Bailey scored the lone goal for the Impact, his second in 24 hours
VANCOUVER, British Columbia – A goal by Joel Bailey in the 55th minute, his second in less than 24 hours, gave the Impact a 1-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps, Sunday, at Swangard Stadium, in Vancouver. The win allows the Impact to take sole possession of first place in USL D1 standings with 32 points, three points ahead of the Whitecaps, who have played five more games.

The Impact, who clinched a 2-1 win against the Sounders in Seattle, Saturday, remains undefeated in its last 12 games (8-0-4).

Goalkeeper Andrew Weber, who played a ninth consecutive game with the Impact since Greg Sutton’s injury, recorded a sixth shutout this season (6-0-3).

It was the Whitecaps' first loss of the season at home.

Montreal has not lost in its last ten games against the Whitecaps (7-0-3) and leads 14-3 in goals during that stretch.

Defender Nevio Pizzolitto became the third player in Impact history to play 200 games, after Mauro Biello (279) and Nick De Santis (219).

Midfielder Leonardo Di Lorenzo was out of the lineup due to a red card received on Saturday against the Seattle Sounders.

The Impact will play a third consecutive game on the road, this Friday, July 21 against the Thunder in Minnesota (8 pm). The Impact will be back home on July 26, against the Seattle Sounders (7:30, RDS, CJAD 800, Sport Plus XM-172).

Meanwhile, Impact head coach Nick De Santis, along with defenders Gabriel Gervais and Mauricio Vincello will participate in the USL D1 All-Star game which will take place Wednesday, July 19 (8 pm, FSW), in Cary, North Carolina.

THE GOAL
55th minute – Following a poor clearing by goalkeeper Tony Caig, forward Mauricio Salles recuperated the ball to pass it on to Joel Bailey, who beat Caig on the counter-attack with a left-footed shot to the far post.

POST GAME COMMENTS
HEAD COACH NICK DE SANTIS
"The game started very slow on both sides. I think we were both cautious defensively. We made some changes at halftime and we started dictating the play in the midfield. After we scored, we had a couple more chances, but we kept playing solid defensively. In the end, in back-to-back games, the bench players make the difference and fortunately, we have enough depth to be successful in these situations."
