| 32-year-old Spanish coach Gil Orriols Jansana made a comeback with the Impact on November 24, 2009 in the roles of assistant coach and physical performance manager. He first arrived with the Montreal club in the winter of 2005-2006 and set about to create a physical training plan adapted to the constraints of the Impact’s calendar. He then accepted in August 2006 an offer from the Academy for Sports Excellence Aspire, in Qatar, where he occupied the post of physical trainer until last October. Orriols Jansana had previously been the physical trainer of the FC Barcelona Reserves (2nd Spanish Division) and collaborated in the physical training program of the club’s juvenile teams (U-12 to U-20) from 2003 to 2005. Orriols Jansana was also a physical trainer of the juvenile teams of the football academy in Osona, Spain, from 1998 to 2001 and was the high performance coach for ski mountaineering athletes who took part in national and European championships from 2003 to 2005. He holds a master’s degree in sport and physical education sciences, with a specialization in high performance soccer from the University of Barcelona, as well as a master’s degree in collective sports from the Institut Nacional d''Educació Física de Catalunya – Byomedic. |
